Understanding NEET MDS Counselling Types
Admission to MDS courses in India is not a single-window process. Depending on your rank and category, you will need to engage with different counselling authorities.
1. All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling (50%)
Managed centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), this quota includes 50% of the total MDS seats in all government dental colleges across India (except J&K, depending on current rules).
- Who can apply: Any candidate who has qualified for NEET MDS 2026.
- Best for: Students looking for top-tier government colleges outside their home state.
2. State Quota Counselling (50%)
The remaining 50% of government seats and 100% of seats in private dental colleges within a state are managed by the State Directorate of Medical Education (DME).
- Who can apply: Candidates meeting the specific domicile/residency criteria of that state.
- Best for: Students wishing to remain in their home state or those targeting private institutions.

- Note: Deemed Universities often have higher tuition fees but offer state-of-the-art infrastructure and no domicile restrictions.
4. Institutional & Special Quotas
- Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS): Specifically for candidates interested in serving in the dental corps of the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
- ESIC Quota: Reserved seats in ESIC dental hospitals for wards of insured persons.
- NRI Quota: A specific percentage of seats in private and Deemed Universities reserved for Non-Resident Indians or NRI-sponsored candidates.
